Guide To The Least Traveled Countries In The World

O ver tourism is highly prevalent in today's world, even if some might not expect it to be. According to the tourism data gathered by The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), it is estimated that approximately 1.4 billion people travel every year!

In such times, it is common to run out of places where you won't be bombarded with tourists. Here is a list of the least traveled countries in the world.

1. Tuvalu

A mere 2,000 tourists were counted in 2017 in Tuvalu, making it a top scorer in the least traveled countries in the world. An area of only 26 square kilometers covers the nation's nine islets (10 square miles). The remote islands are located north of Fiji, amid Hawaii & Australia, which might reflect why few people visit. Tuvalu's.tv web address is likely the most well-known.

This country is so small that it could not even join the United Nations for many years due to the $100,000 membership price.

2. Nauru

Nauru is a Micronesian island with approximately 21 square kilometers (8.1 square miles). It is situated in the Pacific Ocean, near Australia. Apart from the coconut palms, unspoiled coastlines, and crystal-clear water, this area doesn't seem to have much else that would draw people to Nauru.

Even with your current pandemic struggle, Nauru is tough to get to. Currently, Nauru Air seems to be the only carrier that flies there. You can take a plane to Nauru in Fiji or Australia, but these flights are pricey and infrequent. There is no other option than to wait every week for the next aircraft out of the country after you arrive. Once you arrive, things become simpler! The whole nation may be explored on foot in a few hours.

3. Niue

Approximately 1600 friendly locals live on Niue, one of the world's largest elevated coral islands. Niue has no rush hour, is one of the safest locations globally, and utilizes the Kiwi dollar's currency. There are numerous misconceptions about Niue's size — it's more than four times the area of Rarotonga.

Nearly every inch of the island's coastline is framed by 20 to 30 m long cliffs, making it an ideal pinpoint for a refreshing dip in the ocean. Niue is also home to stunning and complex cave systems in the South Pacific. It's easy to navigate the island on a bike because of a 64-mile-long coastal road that encircles it. Diving and swimming off the coastline of Niue are known for their crystal clear waters and abundance of marine life.

4. Guinea-Bissau

Guinea-Bissau, a country in West Africa, has been a Portuguese colony for generations. The nation, which was once heralded as a possible model for African growth, is now amongst the world's worst financial statuses.

Hippos, apes, chimpanzees, and bisons all call this region home. Fishermen and thousands of bird kinds may be seen in the restricted waterways and mangrove marshes.

Arquipélago dos Bijagós, a network of 88 stunning islands and islets, was designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1996. However, Bissau-Guineans continue to endure in the face of adversity.

5. Libya

Libya is a nation in North Africa, bordering Egypt towards the southeast & Tunisia to the westward on its Mediterranean Coastline. Annually, the region receives around 6,000 visitors, which is pretty low.  More than ninety percent of the nation is arid or semi-desert.

Thus, there isn't much variety in the landscape. The Mediterranean and the deserts both impact the climate of Libya. Cool winters with occasional rain and nighttime temps below freezing in the deserts define the region. Summers in the Sahara are brutally dry and hot.

Libya's protracted civil conflict has resulted in considerable political and social unrest and insecurity, and numerous nations have issued travel warnings against any trip to the country. Many towns and cities still have armed militia organizations, which may be deadly.

6. Marshall Islands

The State of the Marshall Islands is one of the world's least-visited nations, with little over 5,000 tourists each year. There are just two resorts on Majuro, the island's "main city," despite its limitless chances for authentic experiences. In the face of findings of nuclear testing, the Marshall Islands' Bikini Island has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

These are some regions from all over the world that are least visited every year. Some are dangerous due to political conditions, while others are harder to reach or just undiscovered. Try putting any one of these least traveled countries in the world on your bucket list to be among the few thousands who visit them every year.
